That said there's nothing obviously off from a layman's perspective. I don't have any means of measuring color accuracy, and this display is not factory calibrated per any marketing from Dell. This is basically like a bad matte display that doesn't do anything to reduce glare or reflection. A low-grain matte display looks far better. Lighter tones, especially white, look like there's sparkling sand all over the display. The end result is that the grain and sparkle is almost magnified, making the display essentially the worst of both worlds. This uses a glossy coat that looks pressed up against, almost glued to, a matte-coated display. Unfortunately, this isn't the solution either.

There are some solid glossy and almost glossy 1080p options, but not so much at 1440p or 4k. What drew me to this display was the glossy coat, which is exactly what I'm looking for. This contrasts with LG's implementation, at least in the sample that I have, where there's no logo but the bottom bezel is still slightly thicker than the other three sides. All four appear to be the same width, and there's a silver "Dell" logo in the center of the bottom bezel. To be perfectly clear, this display does not have support in terms of input or output for any actual HDR standard, and is just mixing the term "HDR" with typical Dynamic Contrast settings for the purposes of marketing.ĭell is using their relatively new "InfinityEdge" design where the "Frameless" inner bezel now covers all four sides instead of the traditional three. Instead, the multiple modes have HDR alternatives, such as "Game" and "Game HDR" as well as "Movie" and "Movie HDR." This is essentially just a dynamic contrast type setting and looks horrid. The display doesn't actually take HDR input from what I can tell. Additionally, you can forget about VESA mounting, as separating the display from the stand/base would disable the monitor. The way this is set up allows for tilt and swivel, but no height adjustment or rotation of the display. All connectivity is in the back of this base, and the tactile menu/control buttons are on the top/front of the base, making them easier to see and use than anything save a proper joystick. This gives it an "All-In One" appearance. In order for Dell to achieve the Ultrathin design that they were going for, electronics typically found behind the displays have been moved to the base.
